I come to you, reader, with a warning born of terror and despair. Deep in the heart of a forsaken lake, where the waters run dark and still, lies a twisted game of fate and peril. A fisherman's tale, once filled with dreams of bountiful catch, turned sinister by the unknown.

Catch fish and journey to the enigmatic market, hidden far to the west, shrouded in darkness and secrecy. There, an unworldly buyer awaits, inscrutable and foreboding. Be wary, for the coins that burst forth in the market's belly are no mere trinkets but carry a haunting aura of evil.

Yet, as you brave this treacherous path, beware the malevolence that lurks unseen. For in the shadows of ancient trees, treehuggers skulk, eager to snatch your hard-earned catch and curse you with a darkness that spreads through your very being. My skin, once tanned by the sun, now turns black like theirs, a mark of doom that lingers. We are them.

I implore you, weary traveler, to wield caution and wit, for the lake's dark secrets have claimed countless fishermen before you. Their dreams of riches and glory swallowed whole by the lake's insatiable hunger. Tread lightly, for it thirsts for more souls to claim, entangling its victims in an eternal struggle.

Your journey's end beckons in the shop beyond, far to the east. Procure the enigmatic items it holds, and only then may you dare to hope for liberation - to "release him." But I beg you, heed my warning and break the cycle of this wicked game. Turn back, return to the safety of your home shores, and forsake the haunting allure of this macabre endeavor. Your life, your soul, they are precious, and this game is nothing but a cruel, treacherous ruse.

This was really well done! You took a simple task such as dishing and added a really nice story to it with hints of darkness and eldritch and it was really fun overall!

Only thing I would have suggested to add or to change (If a similar genre of game is being done!) is to add something else to be done in between the fishing, other than rowing away from the Tree Huggers. Maybe the player fishes out some notes or journal entries and that tells a story or goes deeper into the lore and setting, that would have been more enthralling rather than just doing the same fishing task over and over for an hour. Though I still found the gameplay look to be very fun and relaxing (And spoopy >.>)

Also maybe changing the environment the closer the player gets to the end goal would also maybe have been more scary and would show that something is coming or something will go wrong.

Overall though, I really enjoyed this game and it was very fun! Intrigued as to whether there is a sort of Eldritch horror universe you are creating with Don't Watch The Moon and this game, excited to see more! Good luck for future projects!

I couldn't really understand the lore but it's okay cause' the gameplay Is really interesting, kinda boring cuz' there ins't a lot of things to do except for F I S H I N G (and running from the monsters). Even tho, the atmosphere it's super good and literally gave me the chill
Wish that we could listen the Market song or something similar when we are fishing;(

Overall I loved the experience<3

(sorry for bad english)

Love the game, I shat my pants I wasn't expecting any type of screamer hahaha. I would add a Myst event to add more tension and some sort of mechanic to get rid of the Myst (maybe). I would add a bigger world with a map, looking for better fish in scarier spots, and maybe adding a quest system to get the player to look for those fish in the harder spots. I really liked the game overall keep it up.

psd the music gave me a Resident Evil vibe.

wouldn't  the gods be in the sky

Would it be possible to add a download option? It seems like a cool little game, but my browser keeps bugging and changing its mind about whether webgl is allowed to work ;/

Tell me why I spent so long fishing for actual lungs LMAO I had lots of fun playing this game :) As other people have mentioned, it is quite annoying when a treehugger spawns right above the boat as we are fishing because there is no chance of getting away. Sometimes I wasn't able to cast my fishing rod so I had to row away from the bubbles and then row back. Other than those two bugs, this was a cool little game with a unique concept and beautifully executed.

Pretty sure I gotten all the 99.99% of the fish and "fish"...

As a lover of pixel art games, this one is well done and interesting with its premise! Once you understand the mechanics of the treehuggers (and accepting that they may literally spawn on top of you), the game's difficulty drops significantly. It would definitely spice things up if there were more threats with different mechanics! But for what it is, this game is fantastic.

My only real issue is probably with the grind for the coins, but it does remind me of old flash games and getting paranoid over the treehuggers stealing my fish was quite... thrilling! Along with the fact treehuggers can spawn on top of you!

I really enjoyed this game! I wasn't able to play all the way to the end, I'll blame my lack of skill for that lol, but the atmosphere was amazing and the treehuggers absolutely terrified me! Thank you for making an awesome game.

I did struggle with treehuggers popping up as I was fishing a few times which made the scares even WORSE even though I got to keep my fish, and there were times I wished there were more bubbles around because it felt a little slow but all in all a thoroughly enjoyable well made game!

Very good game

Thanks so much for playing and making a video for it! Be sure to recommend it to any friends :)

Pretty darn good, but...

  1. I accidentally clicked on one of my bookmarks and lost all of my progress
  2. A Treehugger spawned in front of me while I was fishing :(

Really enjoyed this game! I thought the fishing mechanic was quite interesting, and the atmosphere was great, very eerie. The monsters in the trees added a little bit too much fright though...

Really awesome game! The "yay" sound of catching a fish was good comedic relief to releave some of the the creepiness of the game! Lol
